Holy Week and Easter 2011

Various traditional services will be held in many of our Churches during Holy Week as we celebrate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. They will no doubt be advertised in the local papers as well as at individual churches. CTIC news lists primarily services which are organised jointly by a group of churches –  but I will post any information received.

Friday 15 April 7.30pm at St Dominic’s Priory Taizé Prayers Round the Cross
Please contact ctic@blueyonder.co.uk if able to help with readings or music for this service offering people from across our different churches the opportunity to gather in preparation for Holy Week.

Palm Sunday 17 April
Gospel Oak Churches Blessing of Palms & Procession – gather 9.50am Lismore Circus 

3 - 5pm at Hampstead Parish Church
A celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible. Readings from the Authorised Version from Creation to Revelation. 

Ecumenical Procession of Praise with donkey and brass band. 
Leaving Oakley Square at 4pm to process up Camden High Street and finish with a short service at St Michael's.

Monday 18 April
Stations of the Cross for Justice
with the Irish Chaplaincy in Britain which works with vulnerable Irish emigrants
7pm at Our Lady of Help for Christians Church, Kentish Town 
The Stations have been specially written by Fr Gerry McFlynn from the Irish Chaplaincy, to help us think about the stations as a pathway to social justice and life for all. It will be a powerful way to prepare for Easter.
All are welcome and refreshments will be served afterwards.

Maundy Thursday 21 April traditional services at a number of churches. e.g.
Hampstead Parish Church 7.30 pm Maundy Thursday Eucharist commemorating the Last Supper and Christ’s washing of his Disciple’s feet. This service is followed by a silent vigil before the sacrament until midnight.

and 8pm at St Michael's Camden Town, St Pancras Old Church and St Mary's Somers Town
Mass of the Lord's Supper with Washing of Feet and Watch until Midnight.

also 8pm at St Mary's Primrose Hill
Solemn Eucharist, Footwashing, Stripping of altar and Watch until midnight

Good Friday 22 April In addition to traditional Good Friday services in individual churches:

Ecumenical Stations of the Cross
Kings Cross Ecumenical Fellowship (9.30am) (poster)
This Walk of Witness begins in the Quad at London House, Goodenough College, Mecklenburgh Square, visits local churches and ends at St Pancras, Euston Road, with coffee and hot cross buns .

Camden churches joint service at Chalk Farm Baptist Church (10.30am)

Crucifix on Victoria Street walk will begin at 11:45am outside Westminster Methodist Central Hall. The cross will be carried in a silent procession along Victoria Street stopping at Westminster Cathedral for a prayer and reading from the Bible followed by a meditation. The cross bearer will then lead the procession back up Victoria Street to Westminster Abbey for an Ecumenical Good Friday service.

Passion of Jesus 12 noon & 3.15pm in Trafalgar Square
The Wintershall production returns to London: over 70 actors will portray the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, some healing miracles, his betrayal, arrest, trial before Pontius Pilate the Roman Governor, the Crucifixion, burial in the tomb and His Resurrection - a wonderful, exciting and heart moving performance. Large video screens introduced this year so that all can see the action take place. The event is free to the public, the public will move with the actors around Trafalgar Square. www.passionofjesus-trafalgar.co.uk

Easter Sunday 24 April Church services celebrating the Risen Lord e.g.
Hampstead Parish Church
8am Quiet Book of Common Prayer Communion Service
10:30am Parish Choral Eurcharist with renewal of our Baptismal vows.

9.30am Parish Mass of the Resurrection at St Pancras Old Church
10.30am Parish Mass of the Resurrection at St Michael's Camden Town
11.00am Parish Mass of the Resurrection at St Mary's Somers Town
5.00pm Exposition and Benediction at St Mary's Somers Town
5.30pm Parish Mass of the Resurrection at St Paul's Camden Square

St Mary's Primrose Hill
5am The Easter Vigil and Dawn Eucharist with lighting of Paschal Candle and renewal of baptismal vows, followed by breakfast
8am Holy Communion
10.30am Procession and High Mass

Camden Gatherings -
local churches getting together to celebrate Easter.
3 - 6pm at St Michael's Camden Town
A special arfternoon service with a collaboration of speakers. Time to hang out & meet people afterwards.
