Occasional Art, Music and Theatre

London Festival of Contemporary Church Music
See www.lfccm.com for details or email admin@lfccm.com.

The 2012 festival will take place 12th - 20th May, with the theme Trial and Triumph.
The festival will feature lunchtime, teatime and evening events in churches (e.g. St Pancras) and venues across London, many of which will be free to attend. They hope to perform a record number of world premieres, and give young artists a platform to show off their talent.

CALL FOR SCORES/WORKS Closing date 30/12/11.
London Festival of Contemporary Church Music 2012

The Festival invites composers to submit works for inclusion in the 2012 LFCCM.

Compositions may be for choir SATB, SSATB or SSAATTBB (with no further divisi), unaccompanied, or with organ accompaniment.

The theme for this year's Festival is Trial & Triumph so anthems submitted should use suitable texts. Anthems with an Easter theme will also be considered.

Settings of the Mass, evensong canticles (Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis) and Preces & Responses are also welcome.

The Festival also seeks works for organ – for use either as voluntaries or as recital works. Works should be between 5 and 7 minutes in duration.

Please email a pdf of your submission, along with a CV, to admin@lfccm.com.  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by Friday 30 December 2011.

Songs of Praise Back in July 2011 several singers from Hampstead, Belsize Park and Primrose Hill churches were among the 100s taking part in one or more of 4 recordings made at the (airless) Air Studios in Lyndhurst Road. These were Songs of Praise specials featuring a single artist with a “congregation” singing 4 hymns. Each recording took 4 hours for less than 1/2h broadcast as the star was also filmed in a couple of other places. It was quite a marathon for the handful of people who managed all 4 recordings – including, I think, just Chris from Hampstead and myself (M.Hill) – but it was a very interesting and worthwhile experience. The Dana programme was broadcast soon after the recording and the Alfie Boe programme was broadcast in October. Still to come: Rick Wakeman 5th February and Mavis Staples 25th March 2012.
